Mycobacteriosis is a severe chronic and zoonotic disease that affects a wide range of species in both farmed and wild environments worldwide. The pathology is caused by mycobacteria. The disease has recently emerged in Italy, where outbreaks have been reported in both marine and freshwater fish. As treatment is rather difficult, it is important to prevent the disease through the development of a vaccine.
