Limnology is the study of inland waters (both freshwater and saltwater lakes, reservoirs, rivers, streams, wetlands and groundwater) as environmental systems interacting with their drainage and the atmosphere. The study of limnology regulates the links between evolution, mutation, nutrient cycles, the efficient use of natural resources and the generation of species, and describes and evaluates how physical, chemical and organic conditions affect these links.
