Dorota Predkiewicz

The purpose of the work is to examine the interrelationship between the reflecting response in the neonatal period and autistic spectrum disorders. A mixed method comparative study. Setting clinical centre in Poland. 350 new-borns who were in the neonatal ward in the period from November 2016 to December “Broken mirror” as the earliest symptom of autism spectrum disorders – A review of selected research reports 2017 were the participants. Then, 10 new-borns out of 350 who did not reflect and 20 randomly selected new-borns that reflected. A structured intelligence sheet and medical records were used. Then, a statistical analysis using the IBM SPSS Statistics package. The chi square independence test was carried out. The significance level was considered p < 0.05. There is no factor that would determine whether a child reflects or not. A family and health situation do not influence the reflecting response. Some extreme premature babies, despite their immaturity, reflect. 10 out of 350 new-borns did not reflect. The family and health situation in the studied groups did not affect the response. Most premature babies also reflected.
